Letters From Home
Dedicated to Carol
Your Gardener
You sit perched in a field of beauty
Blowing along with the wind
The hungry stubborn violet
Always starving for something more
Not yet knowing
How far your roots can dig
Or the spring you could have
Your potential unknown
Your growth unimagined
Your color a mystery
Then we found each other
I had little to offer
But water and care
All I wanted
Was to be your gardener
You asked
How do I grow?
How can I become the garden I’ve always imagined I could be?
With no answers
I say to you
I want to be your gardener
To stay by your side
I can see it in your roots
The single violet isn’t what you were meant for
Or what you wanted
There was a garden to grow
And seeds to plant
What I saw in you
Were pastures of flowers
With reds, blues, and lavender hues
With lazy cats still as statues
I imagine a home for the colors
A spectrum of you
Each a memento
Of the travels to come
Moons have come and gone
Through each I’ve given you tenderness and care
Cultivating what your garden needs
To grow into the garden of your dreams
I dream of you
Water and care
This was all you needed
For your last few roots
And now
What I see
A beautiful bouquet
Starting to fill
The garden wall
There is nothing more that I want
Than for you to grow
To grow with you
As a gardener tending to your flowers
